Brauhaus Sunner im Walfisch in Cologne

I always go to Cologne where the food and the kölsch are authentic. It's always a great atmosphere.

Unfortunately, never been inside. If the sight of the very old building is as beautiful as it is from the outside, you should venture a visit.

Traditional brewery

Not only very good food, but also a very nice atmosphere! Celebrating New Year's Eve (Sylvester party) is really great :) Absolutely recommended! Note: if you want to eat here on holidays or on a Saturday evening, you really have to make a reservation in time. That is the consequence of their success: a restaurant that is very good (and therefore popular) with a limited size (not too many seats, which means a very cozy atmosphere.

Great food, service and drink, pleasant waiters

Seldom eaten as well as in this brewery. Very fond of children. There is a children's map and something to paint for the little ones. Service absolutely top and super friendly. Food is delicious, fresh and finally a restaurant where you can get full. Rustic ambience. Prices absolutely okay. We will come back in any case.

We were there on a Saturday evening with a reservation. Very friendly and fast staff, the food was delicious and the ambience is cozy. So an absolute recommendation.

The knuckle is excellent. It has a crispy skin. It'd so crispy that you can hear the sound of bites. The goat cheese salate is also very good. The goat cheese is coated with honey.

What can I say?! Very, very friendly staff, delicious food, which was ready super fast. We had the burger and the cream schnitzel. The portions were good, the burger was medium, just like I ordered it. The burger bun was a Röggelchen, which worked very well. One could subtract a star because the menu was just a sheet of paper. Could it be made more beautiful. But I am not deducting anything because we were completely satisfied. We are really looking forward to November, when we will enjoy lunch with the family after the registry office! Top!!

Delicious food, super friendly staff who took us on a tasting through the varieties of the Sünner brewery and distillery. There was also a short history lesson about the brewery and Cologne itself. Perfect to get to know the Cologne lifestyle. Gladly again.

Was eating there with my girlfriend and we thought it was delicious. The service was very friendly and on the ball. The portions were very large. We'd love to come back again

Perfect German food! High quality, home made and DELICIOUS!!!! The restaurant itself is from 1620's and the dark wood is beautiful! Really recommend!!!

Super nice, super delicious food, everything fresh, the sauerbraten is a poem. Own brandies also good, the herbs were my favorite. So everything is good all round and the visit makes sense.

Very great restaurant, There is a wonderfully rustic atmosphere. The staff is extremely friendly and attentive. The food is also extremely tasty. Shortly about 5/5 stars I'll be back!

The small side bar is quaint and cozy, the beer is fresh and the food is scratch made and fantastic. One of my favorites!

Great atmosphere, food and beer

One of the worst experiences in a restaurant ever! We went inside and after being sat at the corner of a table we waited 20 minutes to order. After the waiter eventually arrived, we asked for the menu, he pointed to one lying on the next table and left. When he came back he had an attitude as if he was doing us a favour by taking our order. We ordered a couple of beers, and didn't know that it is tradition for waiters to keep bringing you beers unless you put your coaster on top of your glass. When we explained that during his second round, he growled something and went on his way. We paid and left. There are MUCH nicer places to grab a beer in Cologne. I would suggest avoiding it.

It was wonderful. I had eaten schitzel und bratkartoffel. Really Great and not expensive.

Typical kolsch house with exceptional local food prepared according to traditional recipes. Wonderful, friendly servers. Huge portions. This is a local favorite, packed to the rafters at dinner time, so make a reservation and don't expect to dally one you've stopped eating and drinking.

Food was below average, overcrowded, too small and narrow tables. Building is very nice outside indeed, but there are much better places to eat in Cologne.

I found myself very well, very good dishes, ok beer, nice atmosphere and normal prices ... also recommended because there is an Italian waiter upstairs and this makes things easier, for example he explained the dishes to me typical. The cuisine is German!

Good food and friendly staff. They keep the beer flowing with a simple system of putting a coaster on top of your empty glass to signal you're done drinking, otherwise they will just keep coming :) We were there at an off time on a Monday so the ambience was quiet but I could tell it would be a fun and lively place during a peak time.

We ate here for Christmas dinner We do actually enjoyed the food , service was ok, also time for the waiting was ok . The atmosphere was great. the only downside is that the waitress forgot about to give us the menu and so we waited 10 mins until we let her noticed that, but it was Christmas so I by pass it. Price is good for the amount of food served on the plate cool place !!!

A nice cosy place with great food and friendly staff. It's not overly busy like some of the more popular venues which makes it a genuinely great find.

Unique and recommended!

Had an awful experience in this restaurant. Horrible service. They gave us beers without our asking for it and kept asking if we wanted more beer every two minutes. The food was very good, but our waitress kept asking if we were finished yet when clearly, we weren't. When we asked for a desert, she told us that we only had 20 minutes left so we couldn't get any, when we had only been there for 45 minutes and they did not tell us beforehand that we could only spend a specific time there. Furthermore, we decided to pay by card so she got her pin machine and took our card, and when the transaction was complete she literally threw the card on the table and walked away. In other words, good food but horrible service!

Amazing discovery during our weekend in Cologne. Staff are so welcoming, and food was incredible.

Amazing place. Although they were fully booked they were able to squeeze us in. We both ate the rump steak and it was amazing. Excellent food combined with excellent service which makes this place deserving of a full 5 star review!

Very good Kölsch Sünner beer. Enormous porc chops, local best dish. Enjoyed the scenery. Absolutely go there when visiting. Locals go there.

The Mushroom Cream Schnitzel with Fried Potatoes and Salad was outstanding! Nice atmosphere and friendly service.
